Mixed Media Art

Perfect Pearls Tag

I have a brand new tag to share as we are the third week into Creative Chemistry 101. This week was all about using Perfect Pearls and here is the tag I came up with using two colors of Perfect Pearls (gold & green) and several Distress Inks. This tag is GORGEOUS in person, the photos do not do it justice!

I love this technique and I’ve already “sopped up” the excess to use in an art journal!

Thanks for stopping by!

Playing With Distress Stains

We continue to learn more techniques in the Creative Chemistry 101 class I am taking with Tim Holtz and this day was all about Distress Stains! I have several of these though I have to admit I’ve rarely used them until now… and after today you can bet I’ll be using them more! Here’s a tag I came up with and the stains I used:

Couldn’t you just see me including something like this in one of my digital scrapbooking kits??? Hmmm….

Summer of Creative Art Fun!

This summer I am planning on getting back into making art! I have gotten away from it for a while now and I have to say I really miss it! Part of this means taking some fun new classes including Tim Holtz’s Creative Chemistry classes. I only just discovered these and I am so excited to see what he has in store this summer. I got the chance to meet Tim when I went to a Creating Keepsakes University (CKU) in Houston, Texas in 2008. He is so freaking talented and amazes me everytime I watch him.

So today was day 1 and 2 of class and Tim has started discussing various techniques with Distress Inks. I’m ashamed to say I only have a few distress inks – will definitely need to pick up some more! Here are my tags that I created with the first 3 techniques:

Please forgive the poor quality of the photo – as with all my stuff I create in my basement studio and the lighting sucks! In any case, aren’t these pretty cool techniques? I can see me creating something like this to use in a future digital kit!

There’s still time to sign up for these classes if you’re interested. Head over to Online Card Classes to check them out. (not an affiliate or anything, just really excited to take them!)

I’m planning on taking a few other classes this summer and of course I’m doing Life Book again this year, so expect to see more art from me! Summer of art fun!

p.s. If you know of some cool art classes, link me up!

Love, Light & Joy

I had taken a bit of a break from creating any art. I think I was in a place where I forgot how theraputic it can be to get my hands dirty. I was too consumed with trying to get things “right” in other areas of my life that I did not bother to take some time just for me. And then I watched a video by one of my favorite people, Tamara LaPorte. And it resonated with me. I’ve been struggling with some inner turmoil for a while now and I’ve learned that I need to get it out. This free lesson from Tam was just what I needed. Here it is in case you’d like to check it out too.

So yesterday I got out a brand new art journal that I had previously purchased and started writing. I wrote over both pages, things I’ve been feeling, things I’ve had locked up inside for a long time. Just scribbling across the page. To get it out. No photos of this as 1. I didn’t think to take any and 2. I probably wouldn’t have anyway as these are personal, very private thoughts. But I am sure everyone can relate. Then I slapped on some paint and created the background and began to draw the girl.

In case you don’t know, my studio is in my basement so the lighting is horrid. Sorry!

Once I had the girl down, I just kept going. I felt so free as I created. I didn’t follow all the steps that Tam offered, but I did add a few words of what I want in my life. And here is the finished piece.

The colors of the background are really gorgeous, a vibrant contrast against the mostly black & white girl. I think I kind of love it.

Thanks for stopping by. I think I’ll go create some more art. 😉

Oh, before I forget! Tam is having a huge 50% off sale on her self-study courses TODAY ONLY! I am not affiliated with her in any way at all except that I adore her and her classes. I have purchased three myself that I can’t wait to start! And I’m already in Life Book 2015 which I LOVE!!! Check it out right here.

Inky Background Tutorial

I’m still having tons of fun in my mixed media classes and this week we’re focusing on inks in Supplies Me. Jane (our fabulous instructor) encouraged us to take a little video of creating an inky background for the class. So, while I’ve never created any videos like this before, I decided create one and see what happened! I had Jordan hold my phone as I demonstrate a fairly simple background technique using spray inks, water and Gesso.

Here’s a shot of the finished background:

I’ve been wanting to create some basic video tutorials for digital scrapbooking for some time, but I may also do some mixed media ones too if anyone would be interested. Just need to figure out a better way to film these!
